I have grown quite fond of this green smoothie and I find that it is the simplest way to get my fruits and vegetables in my diet. Personally I struggle with breakfasts and having something nutritious that is fast. Cereal definitely doesn’t rank high on the healthy list. For the longest time I wanted to try green smoothies but the concept of tasting the spinach turned my stomach. One desperate day, I threw these ingredients together and I also liked spinach the best in my smoothies because I cannot taste it.
I do not add any sugar to this smoothie because the banana and the blueberries have enough natural sugars. If you want to add more sweetness add a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup. These sugar additives will change the taste of the smoothie especially honey because it has a distinct taste on its own. You can also substitute the milk for almond milk or any other milk substitute.
Ingredients for the Green Smoothie:
Milk/ Almond Milk – 3/4 Cup
Baby spinach – 1 cup
Banana – 1 frozen
Blueberries – 1 cup, Frozen
Blend all these ingredients well. You may need to stop and use a spoon to push the fruits down to blend well. If you find that it is too thick add another splash of milk. Serve cold.
If you have kids and they love smoothies and hate vegetables, this is a great way to give them a little boost. Most of all, it tastes so good that it is hard to believe it is healthy!
TIP OF THE DAY!
I peel and freeze my bananas when they start to go a bit ripe because these are perfect for these smoothies and banana bread. I do not have to add any ice that waters the taste down.
