Cajun Wings

Cajun Wings

I have recently been enjoying making my own cajun seasoning and it is perfect to give many dishes a kick. With these cajun wings it is perfect as it coats them but doesn’t overwhelm them. You can taste the complexity of the rub without any other coating to take away from it. These wings crisp up pretty well in the oven that I often forget they are not fried.

Inorder to make sure the wings absorb these beautiful flavours I marinate them overnight. If you are not able to marinate them overnight, at the least have them marinate for four to five hours. This is crucial to the wings tasting well seasoned. Let’s get into it!

Preparation Time – 10 Minutes

Cook Time – 45 Minutes

Ingredients for Cajun Wings

Chicken wings – 3 lbs

Garlic powder – 2 Teaspoons

Onion powder – 2 Teaspoons

Paprika – 2 Teaspoons

Oregano – 1 Teaspoon

Thyme – 1 Teaspoon

Pepper – 1/2 Teaspoon

Cayenne powder – 1/2 Teaspoon

Salt – 3/4 Teaspoon

Olive Oil – 4 Teaspoons

Directions

Firstly, in a bowl mix all the spices and the oil and using this marinade coat the wings well. Cover and put in the fridge overnight. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and lay the wings out on a baking tray covered in parchment paper to avoid sticking. Make sure the wings are not overlapping because we want as much surface area to crisp up as we can.

Bake them for 45 minutes, you can turn them at the halfway mark using tongs. After the 45 minutes if you still want it crispier you can broil them for a few minutes. Do not leave them unattended. Serve hot!

I served this with ranch as a dip and it was perfectly seasoned and crispy. Making wings seem complicated but it is probably one of the more easiest things to make! I think the concept of going out to eat them makes me think twice. These are not greasy as they are baked versus fried. Another reason I prefer them made at home is being able to control the sodium intake. I am not sure if you have noticed how salty wings tend to be in restaurants, I hear that this is to prompt us to buy drinks thus adding more orders to  our bill. So there you go this may save you some money too!!

However, on a more serious note, if you are having a party this will be a sure crowd pleaser. You can serve this with ranch or a blue cheese dressing. Planning a party menu and want more wings? Check out another wing recipe, Honey Garlic Wings.
