I have a little asparagus obsession, so I can't wait to try this recipe!
So technically yesterday the 14th of December was National Cocoa Day! I was, of course, late to the party but I was intrigued to come up with a recipe. Generally all the recipes I have tried or even the mixes we get are too sweet or too salty…or too syrupy?
This is such a simple recipe so there really are not many photos of me making it. And you will notice that my hot cocoa looks…like hot cocoa? There is no whipped cream or marshmallows because it was midnight when I made it and I was not going to go buy anything! Also, I am slightly obsessed with cardamom as you will notice.
Serves – 2
Milk – 2 cups
Sugar – 1 Tablespoon
Salt – A pinch
Cocoa powder – 2 Tablespoons
White Chocolate Chips – 1/4 Cup
Cardamom powder – two pinches or one pod of cardamom seeds crushed.
Vanilla essence – 3/4 Tablespoons
In a saucepan pour the milk and cocoa powder, using a whisk incorporate the powder into the milk. Add the pinch of salt, sugar and cardamom powder and bring to a boil. Once boiled remove from heat and add your white chocolate chips and whisk again to mix well. Do not return to the heat. Make sure you are always whisking so that the bottom doesn’t burn. Pour and serve immediately.
I found that the sugar was enough for me since the white chocolate chips had sugar as well. If you just want your regular hot cocoa without the white chocolate in it, double your cocoa powder. I wanted a mix of these flavors as I felt that combination would work well with the cardamom for this recipe.
In a pinch the store bought mixes work but honestly after realizing how easy and customizable the recipe is you will not hesitate to make it from scratch. So get cozy and enjoy this recipe!
